What is the Obesity Paradox?

The obesity paradox occurs when an individual that is normal weight or underweight has significant long term metabolic health problems, and an overweight or slightly obese individual has normal metabolic health parameters and no major chronic health problems. The number of people that is currently estimated to have the obesity paradox is 35% of the world population. For a person to be considered metabolically normal, their blood sugar, blood pressure, cholesterol (both good and bad levels), and triglycerides would need to be in the normal range.
